Semi-automated crop field drawings - Drawing #10
Semi-automated crop field drawings - Drawing #10
Semi-Automated Crop Field Drawings explores the geometric patterns created by modern farming machinery across Denmark's agricultural landscapes. This series of 16 penplotter drawings captures tractor tracks from aerial photographs taken along the route from Copenhagen to Roskilde, revealing the intersection of technology, landscape, and automated production.
Each drawing is created through a hybrid process that mirrors contemporary farming: manual tracing combined with automated pattern generation, reflecting how GPS-guided tractors work alongside human operators. The artwork transforms agricultural geometries into intimate glimpses of the distant landscapes that sustain urban life.
For city dwellers who rarely experience the fields that produce their daily food, these drawings serve as geometric "windows" into the cultivated countryside. The repetitive patterns created by standardized farming machinery represent some of the most widespread human-made forms on the planet, yet remain largely invisible to those they feed.
The edition numbers - 16 designs in editions of 64 - reference digital systems (hexadecimal and 64-bit computing), connecting the artwork to the computational technologies that increasingly govern agricultural production.
